Now, more than ever before, it's time to really look inside and reconnect with ourselves and our purpose in life. It's common to feel lost with the fast paced world we live in. We get bombarded with so much information, and it gets hard to avoid mental tiredness or burnout.

Mindful practices on a daily basis like yoga, breathwork and meditation can really help to clear the mind and focus on the present, but sometimes we simply need to be completely out of the picture to relax. It's important to take some time to focus only on yourself and how you feel. We all need a reset button once in a while to be able to enjoy life while being more present around the ones we love, and that's why yoga retreats are so popular right now.

A yoga retreat not only will deepen your yoga practice, but will also work in self reflection, mindfulness and disconnection from technology. An international retreat allows you to meet new friends from different parts of the world, meet new places and gain a new perspective! The only downside of yoga retreats is the price. Some retreats will charge $500 a night or even more, making it inaccessible to many people. Usually the price is related to the location, accommodation, food and the experience of the teachers, but if your main goal is the yoga and the healing there's no point in paying that much more for luxurious meals and accommodation. There are many other retreats around the world that will charge much less with all included, and also provide an amazing and unforgettable experience.

Here is a list of 5 great and affordable yoga retreats abroad:

This retreat and spa offers 5 nights accommodation, 1 hour Ayurveda treatment per day, highly experienced Ayurvedic doctors, daily pranayama or mindfulness meditation, daily mantra chanting and yoga group session, nature walks, mountain treks, village tours, temple visit, daily Ayurvedic meals and airport transfers. The price is for a private double room. Rishikesh is considered the world capital of yoga and this is probably the most luxurious experience I'll list here for an unbeatable price. If you're worried about the cost of flying there, I'll mention a few tips on how to find affordable flights online at the end of this post.

This retreat in Albania includes 6 nights accommodation, Restorative, Nidra, and Vinyasa Flow yoga sessions, yoga workshops, pranayama, meditation, hot springs, natural pools, water massage, healing baths, cold exposure, canyon hike, daily local and fresh organic vegetarian meals and airport transfers. Sounds like a dream am I right?! The price is for a shared triple of quadruple room, so you will have roommates and maybe new good friends to share this experience with.

This retreat in Portugal includes 6 days of activities, 2 yoga classes per day, meditation and pranayama sessions, massage lesson, workshops, 6 nights accommodation, airport transfers and daily healthy meals. It's only US$837 for everything if you're okay with sharing a dorm, but you have the option to pay more to have your own room. It has a 5 star rating and Portugal is such a great destination with beautiful places to visit like the Azores, Coimbra and the Algarve.

This retreat in South Africa includes 6 nights accommodation, yoga, meditation, inspirational breathwork, mindfulness, reiki, stress relieving skills learning sessions, work-life coaching sessions, hiking, forest bathing, grounding

and all meals, snacks, and drinks. The price is for a nice private room. It's located in beautiful South Africa and it's focused on burnout recovery, with a work and life coaching. If you're having burnout from work, this is the most recommended option.

This retreat in Canada offers 5 nights accommodation, daily Laya yoga class, yoga philosophy discussion, walking or sitting meditation, mudras / pranayama / chant / Bhakti meditation, somatic assist and release and all the meals. This is the most affordable option on the list and also the closest one, which means you will probably spend less with transportation too. The price is for a private basic room. It's the perfect option for the ones who want to focus on the yoga practice and theory and it includes a variety of practices and styles.

There are many other options with different durations and in different locations, but I focused on a week length because I believe that's the perfect amount of time to be able to enjoy a retreat fully and without spending a crazy amount of money.

For the flight

Flight prices are sky high this year and it could make the whole trip much more expensive. Make sure you check the flight prices for the dates you choose before booking your retreat. Some retreats offer a wide variety of dates and you might find cheaper flights for different dates. If you're trying to save money on flights I have two major tips to help.

Use Skyscanner or Google Flights to search for different dates and departure area.

Skyscanner allows you to search for variable dates, and you can even just select the month you would like to travel and it gives you the best prices in that month. It also allows you to search by Country instead of an specific airport, and flights leaving from a different state can be much cheaper, being worth traveling to that state and flying from there. Google will allow you to add the desired dates for your trip and then you can click on price graph and see the price for different dates with the same trip length.

Use mileage/ join a mileage program

Most credit card companies have a mileage program that allows you to pay for flights using miles. All of them work in a similar way but I suggest the Amex Delta SkyMiles card. I've been using it for 4 years now and have used miles in probably over 8 trips, including 3 round trips to Brazil and 1 one way ticket to Hawaii. When you sign up for the card, as long as you spend US$2.000 in the first 6 months, you get a bonus of 40.000 miles, that could cover part of your flight costs to the retreat trip. You also get to check your bag for free in any delta flight. I love flying delta because it has the best service and well maintained and equipped aircrafts. I use my card to pay for most part of the things I buy and I get at least one mile per dollar I spend, so you can get thousands of miles per month. The big downside is the card's annual fee. But if you travel a lot it pays for itself in one or two trips based on how much you save in flights. There are many card options that don't charge an annual fee like Discovery Miles and Wells Fargo Autograph but they will have a little less benefits than the Skymiles.
